REGIONAL DISTRICT OF MOUNT WADDINGTON
The Regional District of Mount Waddington (RDMW), with a population of 12,000, encompasses an area of 20,720 square kilometers which includes the north end of Vancouver Island, a portion of the mainland and numerous islands in Queen Charlotte Strait. The RDMW is divided into four electoral areas, includes eight unincorporated communities and is home to four municipalities and a number of First Nations’ settlements.
Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for directing the financial affairs of the Regional District and Regional Hospital District. Related functions include financial planning, risk management, managing budgetary and other internal controls; regular reporting and analysis.
The ideal candidate will have a recognized accounting designation supplemented by a minimum of three (3) years of senior local government or related accounting/financial and management experience. The candidate will have extensive experience working with financial and other computer software. Knowledge of the Community Charter and Local Government Act is considered an asset, along with excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills.
This position is based at the RDMW’s administrative office located in Port McNeill, B.C. The RDMW offers an attractive wage and benefit package for this exempt officer’s position. RDMW Financial Fees and Charges Bylaw Adopted
At the March 15, 2016 RDMW Board meeting, Bylaw No. 896 "Regional District of Mount Waddington Finance Fees and Charges Bylaw" was adopted. The Bylaw is effective April 1, 2016 and enables the Regional District to recover some of the costs associated with the collection of fees and charges by establishing terms and conditions for payment, including interest and penalties. Strategic Priorities Funding awarded for 7 Mile Recycling Centre and Landfill Scales Replacement
On February 12, 2016 Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities announced over $73.3 million in funding from the federal Gas Tax Fund for 57 capital and capacity building projects for communities across British Columbia. The projects were selected through the application-based Strategic Priorities Fund. The Regional District of Mount Waddington was honoured to be awarded $60,000 towards replacement of the 7 Mile Recycling and Landfill Scales which will provide the opportunity to increase the efficiency of billing for tipping fees and easing the maintenance of the scales to maximize their service life. Campsite Reservations Open
Bere Point and Link River Campsites will be open for reservations on Monday, February 1st, 2016 at 8:30am. Please call the Regional District of Mount Waddington Office at 250-956-3301, press extension 221 and leave a voicemail message with your name, number, Park, desired dates and sites. Calls will be returned in the order they were received. All reservations must be secured by payment of the reservation fee ($6) plus the first night stay ($16 or $20) for each site and each reservation (if booking multiple stays).
Regional District declared Carbon Neutral in 2012!
Climate change is a global challenge. The RDMW has committed to reduce and offset our corporate emissions and in recognition of this effort we have been awarded Level 3 recognition - "Achievement of Carbon Neutrality" by the joint Provincial-Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) Green Communities Committee (GCC).
