Mount Waddington Transit began service July 2, 2008, with a generous grant from Vancouver Island Health Authority. As of April 1, 2010, BC Transit began cost-sharing in the system in partnership with the Regional District of Mount Waddington. North Island Community Services Society operates the buses and the Transit Office.
