Quatsino (also known as Old Quatsino) is an unincorporated community in Electoral Area B located on Quatsino Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Island.  Access to Quatsino is by water only, often leaving from the dock in Coal Harbour.

The Quatsino Transfer station is now open and accepting both residential garbage and recycling.

Hours of Operation are Sunday from 9:00am to 11:00am

Residents are allowed 2 bags of garbage bi-weekly, nominal charges will apply for additional bags.

Canada Post New Operating Hours:

Canada Post has announced new operating hours for the Quatsino Post Office. Revised Hours will take effect September 27, 2021. The Post Office will be closed from 12:30-1:00 Monday and 2:30 to 3:00pm Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, with closing time extended to 5:30 Monday to Thursday.

Open Hours:

Monday: 9:00am to 12:30pm / 1:00pm to 5:30pm

Tuesday: 12:00pm to 2:30pm / 3:00pm to 5:30pm

Wednesday: 12:00pm to 2:30pm / 3:00pm to 5:30pm

The Bergh Cove Public Wharf is owned and operated by the Regional District of Mount Waddington on behalf of the residents of Quatsino. The wharf is operated based on a user pay system and is regulated by the terms set out in the Bergh Cove Regulatory Bylaw No. 982.

Building Bylaw:

While approval of a Building Permit is not required, the siting of buildings and structures must be undertaken in accordance with the BC Building Code, and as of November 1, 2020, a Building Bylaw is in effect that requires a Site Permit be applied for and issued by the Regional District. The Site Permit process is designed to ensure that the siting of buildings and structures conforms to the requirements of the applicable zoning bylaw. With respect to the subdivision of land, the Ministry of Transportation processes and approves applications for this purpose. Information, including a copy of the application required for subdivision, can be found on the Ministry's website at:

The community of Quatsino is subject to an Official Community Plan Bylaw (Bylaw No. 656, 2002) and a Zoning Bylaw (Bylaw No. 670, 2002). The Official Community Plan includes objectives and policies to guide decisions related to planning and land use management for the community into the future. The Zoning Bylaw is intended to implement the objectives and policies of the Official Community Plan and prescribes detailed regulations related to land use, the siting, size and dimensions of buildings, minimum lot size for the purposes of subdivision, etc. Please refer to the following links for more information:
